What research guidelines did Humphrey’s breach in his experiment? SOCIOLOGY
There was significant outrage concerning the Humphreys research project. The lack of safeguards in his project as well as the deceptive measures by which he gained access to the so-called Tearoom Trade did not preclude him from receiving his degree and becoming a professor at an elite West Coast university, however. But the case is still discussed in numerous sociology classes as an example of unethical conduct in ethnographic research. After reviewing Joan Sieber’s synopsis, detail three areas in Humphreys’s research that breached research guidelines and explain why they were ethical breaches.
