“What can we do to support victims” discussion board

IMPORTANT: This module’s learning assignment has been combined with the module Be A Researcher activity. This assignment is worth 10 points. Part of your grade will be based on you responding (thoughtfully) to two other student’s submissions. You must post your work BEFORE you can respond to the work of others.

After reading Chapter 10, I was taken back by one small, but informative, aspect of the reading. On page 335 Hickey describes the important question that has not been answered in measuring the extent of serial murder: According to Quinet (2007) there are an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 missing persons in the US. In other words, we have no idea what happened to these individuals. Could they be a victim of serial murder? If so, this is staggering and means we have clearly underestimated the depth of serial murder in the US.

Your job this module:

Consider and propose actions that could prevent individuals from becoming victims of serial murder in the first place. What types of campaigns could be done to educate potential victims? Who should be involved?

To answer the above question, use the knowledge you gained from chapter 10, and the following resources, to develop your insightful and thoughtful post.

Website: Arizona Attorney General’s Victim Services (Links to an external site.)

Article: Victim Target Networks by Maurice Godwin This article is brief but provides some interesting ideas/background into the topic of victims and serial murder. Citation: Godwin, M. (1998). Victim target networks as solvability factors in serial murder. Social Behavior and Personality: an international journal, 26(1), 75-83.

I have also added pictures of the pages of Chapter 10 for you. I hope you can read those.
