Considering the job description is the initial draw for a potential applicant in knowing their abilities in comparison to the aspects noted, performance appraisal processes will need to be derived from this set of items as this is the expectation being advertised for potential hires. “Matching the performance criteria as reflected in the performance appraisal format to the ratee’s task is one way to ensure relevance” (Lee, 1985). The criteria being listed upfront within the description is vital as it already elaborates on the expectations management can expect and therefore sets the expectations for future performance assessments. Being upfront with the appraisal and rating expectations can serve to gain trust with the applicant and also ensure management has a clear understanding on how to guage performance for the whole department or organization. Similar with rating, all employee’s would have had the same expectation set from the beginning in that particular position, therefore all can be rated on performance as the expectations have been set.
