Back in the 1970s, Cabinet Secretary Joseph Califano said that someone from the government promising to help you is telling a classic lie. Or is it?
Did the federal government get it right with Medicare in the 1960s? Why did it not go further? Why limit this program to the elderly? The question under discussion here is whether something like Medicare could be extended into a larger program that offers more services and covers a wider range of age groups.
