Du Bois wrote, “The problems of the twentieth century is the problem of the color-line.” Discuss three social conventions and laws that demarcated the color-line in America during the Age of Jim Crow. Discuss how blacks were kept separate, the penalties African Americans faced for crossing the color line, and strategies employed in fighting against racism. How did sport undermine the theory of (white racial supremacy) upon which the entire system of the color line was based? Finally determine to what extent black athletes faced a different or similar reality as it pertained to the color-line. What were their methods for surmounting the color-line?
