What do you believe was the cause of art collecting by humans since the 17th century? Who are what kick started this tradition? Why has there been such a draw to art by humanity since the beginning? Either economically or aesthetically.
Also what has art collecting seemed to evolve into since Greece in the 17th century? Is it the same or vastly different?
In “The Rare Art Traditions” Alsop explains that, “All the divergent art traditions developed by all sorts of human societies may then be seen as built upon these innate deep structures of art, in much the way divergent languages are built upon Professor Chomsky’s deep structures,” (Alsop, 82). What other parallels do you think art and language share and why?
