four to six page paper

TOPIC- Quality DayCare and After-School Care for Dual-Worker Families

SHORTENED AND SIMPLIFIED TERM PAPER

Your term paper has been shortened from 4-6 pages to 4 pages (5 absolute maximum), excluding references and three still-required appendices; number your pages. There is still valuable info in syllabus; read it.

Page one:

Start with a long paragraph that uses some product of your literature review to set up an overview of your topic (with citations, meaning last name of authors and year, also page number if you use a quotation). The short paragraph that ends this page is a statement on your method: Be sure to state how you know or found your subject, where the interview took place (anyone else present?), how long it lasted, did you take notes at the time, was subject informed that s/he could skip questions considered too personal, etc. Please use fake names!

The next two pages (i.e. page 2 and 3) are a summary of what you learned in your interview. DO NOT DO THIS Q&A Style; write narrative paragraphs.

Last page (p. 4) finish your interview report, but spend most of this page describing what you learned from the interview that relates to class materials on how policies and laws and social support help families survive. Do not forget to write BENEFITS of being in this family form (e.g. single mom can raise kids as she sees fit, no disagreeing partner; closeness to children…whatever you learned). This is where you will also cite relevant articles.

Your interview report might go an additional half page or so. Be sure in paragraph one and in your last page to include what is now FIVE required recent ACADEMIC references; if your family is covered in our text AOF, be sure to use the relevant chapter as one of your 5 references. SEE THE TORREY TERM PAPER NOW ADDED TO MOODLE TOPIC ELEVEN FOR PROPER FORMATTING OF REFERENCES. YOU MAY ADD NON ACADEMIC REFERENCES, TOO, BUT THEY WILL BE IN ADDITION TO THE FIVE—eight NO LONGER NEEDED.

THREE Appendices ARE REQUIRED at End of Paper: (1) please include a copy of your final interview questions (you DO NOT need to include interviewee’s answers); (2) Declare whether you do or do not want to participate in bonus point panels (you cannot volunteer at later date; must declare now); (3) WITH PAPER CLIP ATTACH TO YOUR PAPER AS LAST PAGE a XEROX of an abstract page (that’s the indented usually italicized summary at start of an academic journal article on its first page, that includes full citation with page numbers in journal) from the most useful academic article you found—the abstract is a required part of this assignment and will be retained by me to help future students (xerox or print from source, do not retype); DON’T LOSE POINTS BY FORGETTING ANY OF THESE 3 APPENDICES!
