English Assignment, English homework help

This homework assignment is not taken from the textbook. The purpose of this assignment is to apply the strategies of evaluating the accuracy, credibility, and legitimacy of information sources. Choose 2 news sources that you suspect might be “misleading” or “fake”, and apply the steps of evaluating the credibility of information that we discussed in class (if you missed class, refer to the Chapter 8 notes). You can use any news articles or websites that you come across in your social media feeds or any other context. Search for information about the source’s staff, journalism philosophy, code of ethics, editorial policy, mission statement, funding, etc. to determine how legitimate the source is. You will summarize your findings in a 1-2 page response. In your response, don’t focus on the information itself (although you will have to briefly summarize what your sources are about). Instead, focus on describing the steps you took to analyze the source’s credibility and summarize your overall determination of how legitimate the information is. Would you categorize your source as “satire”, “highly partisan information”, “misleading information”, or “fake news”? Why and how? Do you trust the information and consider it truthful? Why or why not? Would it be acceptable to cite in an academic essay or technical writing document in the workplace? Why or why not? Would you feel comfortable reposting it to your social media feed? What red flags, missing information, or blatantly false information do you notice?

Please include links to your sources with your response. On the day that this assignment is due, you will bring your response to class and share your findings with your classmates with the goal of sparking a productive 10-15 minute class discussion.
