Discuss how you can use the three screeners you examined together to ensure the children you working with are meeting their developmental milestones, psychology homework help

Respond to a peer by respectfully stating whether you agree or disagree with the next steps they shared in their initial post about what they would do after administering the screener. If you agree with their next steps, provide evidence to support your decision. If you disagree, explain what you feel they need to do differently and why. 5 sentences or more.

Discuss how you can use the three screeners you examined together to ensure the children you working with are meeting their developmental milestones. Use your course text to support your response.

“Screening is the administration of a brief assessment to identify possible problems that may later be further evaluated using more extensive and more accurate assessment” (Howard & Aiken, 2015, Section 5.1). Using the three screeners I used in my Venn Diagram (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, third edition; the Alberta Infant Motor Screening Test; and the Fluharty Preschool Speech and Language Screening Test) are all excellent methods to ensure the children I am working with are meeting their developmental milestones. After careful observation, it may be considered to administer each screener to assist in a deeper analysis. As with all screeners, provided that a child is not reaching milestones, early intervention can be provided. For instance, during the one-on-one Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence screening test, I am able to assess “cognitive areas, such as verbal comprehension, visual-spatial, fluid reasoning, working memory, and/or processing speed” (Testing for Kindergarten, 2013). – Or if a child seems to be delayed in language or speech, I may consider giving them the Fluharty Preschool Speech and Language Screening Test which assesses the child’s speech and language development. The Alberta Infant Motor Screening Test is another excellent tool to see if infants are at risk of delayed motor development such as rolling over, sitting up, or pulling themselves up. Again, catching lags in development after observation leads to these scanners and is all imperative for early intervention.

Explain what your next steps would be after administering the three screeners to a child whose development you were concerned about.

After administering the three screeners to a child whose development I was concerned about I would talk to the parents (again) about setting up more formal assessments with professionals of that field. We could then discuss interventions and solutions including referring to a specialist, and creating in-classroom challenges for the specific child’s needs and growth. An evaluation may be recommended, where multiple comprehensive assessments are administered.

Discuss the importance of involving families in the screening process. Make sure to include specific examples that are connected to the three screeners you chose.

Family involvement – in general, during the entire early years of life – is essential to intelligence, cognitive (including language), and motor development. Families should encourage their children to stand up, sit down, jump, run, etc., as well as reading them books, talking to them, engaging in playful activities like puzzles, learning colors and numbers, etc. A large part of a child’s day is spent at home so the more involved the parents are, especially when there may be some concern in developmental delays, the more the child will be exposed to exercising their bodies and brains.
