Definition and Components of Family Discussion

This discussion will serve as a warm-up to class conversations that we will have throughout the semester. It is not designed to be difficult or academically intensive but as a way for you to familiarize yourself with these conversations, review how to post in Canvas and demonstrate understanding of the expectations as addressed earlier in this Module (please see Expectations for class discussions and small groups).

Part A: First read chapter 1 and watch this short clip:

As discussed in chapter 1 and as the video presents, the definition of family has become broader and more complex to define. With this in mind and in your own words, define what family means to you. As the authors of our text shared their definition and included the legal, social, economical, and functional components, please do so in your definition as well. Finally, how has this definition changed over time and what does that mean to you?

Part B: Respond to 4 others in the class and discuss the differences and similarities of their definition with your own.
