Week 4 DQ 2 – Response to Brianna Colbert, psychology homework help

Dr. Broomé & Classmates:

Dr. Amedeo Giorgi founded the descriptive phenomenological psychology method in the 1970s. Within this qualitative method of inquiry, Giorgi sponsors Husserl’s establishment of phenomenology, asserting that it brings novel insight to scientific empirically backed research (Smith, 2016). In his examination of the descriptive phenomenological psychology method, Giorgi specifically focuses on attitude and its adverse impact on participant data by way of the researcher’s presumptions and expectations regarding experience (Wertz, 2010; Giorgi, 2009). Giorgi focuses on three important elements that formulate this method: an explanation for the philosophical method of investigating consciousness, a plan for scientifically examining psychological subjects, and the formation of a step-by-step structure of this modified method (Wertz, 2010; Giorgi, 2009). In my view, Dr. Giorgi’s contribution and approach are important in yielding empirical evidence in understanding the human condition because he moved towards conjoining systematic analysis, phenomenology, and psychological sensitivity; all necessary for establishing and understanding human existence and life as a disciplinary unit, and not separate entities. Giorgi’s method compares to quantitative research methodologies in that they both can be impacted by restriction in potential cogency of variables and methods.
