Trump Administration Should Prosecute Terrorism Suspects in Federal Courts , Humanrightsfirt.org

This is an article on literally prosecuting terrorism suspects in federal courts. The importance of doing this is so they can get all the answers they want on the terrorist. There has been over 580 people since 911 trialed as a terrorist suspect, and unfortunately is not something we in America should ever take lightly. The writer of this article says, “federal courts, unlike military commissions, can try suspects for offenses involving fraud, immigration, firearms, and drugs. In addition, convictions for the crime of material support before a military commission, rather than a federal court, have been overturned on appeal because these crimes have not generally been considered war crimes”. Another good article to read if this is something that interests you is “Taking Down Terrorists in Court” , this article is a specific story about Zainab Ahmad who has taken terrorists to court. A lot of people believe more people have died in the jail that are waiting to be proven guilty or innocent of being a terrorist than taken to the court to be proven or not. The military commissions are just not doing the job a lot of people believe from what I have read in my research! Again by humanrightsfirst, they shared “Military commissions fail to meet U.S. constitutional and international law fair trial standards”. Federal courts should be the ones handling this, they are the ones who are always dealing with classified and high security issues in our country.

I generally try to pick the forum post topic with the least amount of posts on it, but this one was particularly difficult this week as there is such an immense amount of information to sift through to in terms of National Security in the country today.

National Security is always of the upmost importance, and with the rapid advancement of technology, new issues of the modern era are coming more and more common. One subject of increasing interest is the realm or Cyber Security. Something that wasn’t even a thought less than 40 years ago is now one of the most rapidly expanding areas of focus.

A news article posted by CBS News recently discusses a growing concern between federal courts and the American Public. In the case mentioned, an individuals’ right to protection against self incrimination within the cyber realm is debated in relation to the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution. The issue is that law enforcement agencies are encouraging the accused to provide passwords to devices in an effort to accrue evidence against them, which is unconstitutional as per the Fifth Amendment. In this particular instance, it does not change the case, as more evidence has already been found in other parts of the investigation that is enough to incarcerate the offender (Roy, 2017).

The key take away from this article is the last paragraph that indicates that the Supreme Court may need to step in on this issue as it has become a regular occurrence, and cyber security as a whole is a topic that needs particular attention. With recent news headlines about the potential tampering of the election and several other clear attempts to attack the US via electronic means, the cyber infrastructure has been under increasing peril; this is supported by survey data and statistics as more people around the globe have access to the internet (Symantec, 2017).

The previous administration in the White House released statements and set in motion the Cyber-Security National Action Plan (CNAP) in an effort to give the federal government more power and greater ability to protect American citizens from cyber threats and intrusions by making it easier for corporations to share knowledge of known threats as well as to better convey this information to the government for investigation (Whitehouse.gov, 2016). While this made the concern over cyber threats to America more known to the public in an effort to mitigate future attacks, it is clear that more must be done to keep up with the rapidly advancing technology.

National security is of the most highest importance in America. We as Americans want to always be free and able to live our lives the way we want. Now our National security is highly impacted when it comes down to terrorism, immigration, and a large amount various other ways.

Immigration for example has been happening for a very long time and will probably continue to happen for a very long time. Now immigration Also known as an “Undocumented Alien,” is an alien who has entered the United States illegally and is deport-able if apprehended, or an alien who entered the United States legally but who has fallen “out of status” and is deport-able (United States, 2017.) Now not all Immigration is illegal there are many legal immigrants. I have personally found this tends to be misunderstood from time to time from people I have met.

Now immigration does effect America Which could be in the forms of job opportunities, housing, and terrorism. Some of the biggest events that have happened in our American history involving terrorism occurred from Immigrants. One specific topic that was debated was 9/11 and whether the terrorists during this day were actually immigrants or not (10 years later, 2014.)

Now in recent events with Immigration our President feels it is an issue and needs to be handled. President trump ordered for a Immigration ban which is now being debated whether it violates certain rights or not. In a 10-3 vote, the 4Th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the ban likely violates the Constitution. And it upheld a lower court ruling that blocks the Republican administration from cutting off visas for people from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen (Virginia, 2017.)The president does not feel that this ban effects any rights and is pushing to take the fight to the supreme court (Virginia, 2017.)

Now I believe that the answer is not in banning but maybe in strengthening the process in which makes an immigrant legal or allowed in our borders. The American peoples safety should always come first so if the process eliminates certain people from entering then I feel that is fine because at the end of the day I know the people will be safe from terrorism and effects that can occur.
