TRS3340 Virginia Commonwealth University Role of Spirituality in Healing Paper

The outline for the Final paper is due next Monday, 10/7.

Here is the outline in brief. A full explanation is below this. I will say this a thousand time: THIS IS NOT A REPORT! Aim to write in the first person and share you ideas throughout. Quotes should always be introduced by you, and followed by your comments and examples. Unless it is an inset longer quote, you should never have a paragraph of all quotes! So the outline should be about your ideas, not just the quotes you will use.

Please also note Section Headers are in Bold, and subheadings are in italics. As always, this is too much to take in at once, so look at the specifics as you write.

Intro and thesis: 3-4 sentences in your own voice of lead in to your opinion based this of what you think and why. For the outline/intro assignment you need to offer a full intro and thesis.

Background: Offer one paragraph of what interests you personally on this topic. (For the outline you need only offer your topic sentence/first sentence for each heading and subheading.)

My Experience Talk about your own experience with the topic, no quotes.

Some Definitions You can quote some, but frame in your voice.

Issues Share what you see as major issues. Include some quote.

Analysis You may have 1 paragraph of introduction into your own points, but you may also just begin your points. (For the outline you need only offer your topic sentence/first sentence for our claims per point. You can mention who you will quote, and your example for the CER analysis paragraphs also.).

Point one (choose your own name)

  • Personal claim (no “People do this” but more “I find that…”
  • Quotes –
  • Reasoning and Example –

Note: For the outline do include the bullet points for claim/quote/reasoning and example. For the draft and final paper you of course remove the bullet points. Only headers and subheadings should remain.

Point Two (choose your own name)

  • Personal claim (no “People do this” but more “I find that…”
  • Quotes –
  • Reasoning and Example –

Point Three (choose your own name)

  • Personal claim (no “People do this” but more “I find that…”
  • Quotes –
  • Reasoning and Example –

Conclusion In your own voice, summarize your ideas and findings, then re-state the thesis in a new way. Don’t just repeat it. ( You might want to try a full conclusion now, but have at least the first sentence).
