RE: The Parthenon vs the Pantheon
The Parthenon is a rectangular building, built by the ancient Greeks. It is located Athens, Greece. The Pantheon is a round building with a square front. It was built by the Ancient Romans, It is located in Rome. Parthenon has Doric columns, which are simple columns with rounded top. Pantheon has Corinthian style columns, which have fancy flowers or images at the top of the columns. Both were used for Religious purposes but to pay tribute to different gods. The Parthenon was created to honor the Greek god Athena. At one time a statue of Athena was placed inside. The Parthenon was built to honor the highest god in Roman Mythology, Jupiter. They were both reused many times throughout history for differentpurposes. Both were used as a model for American architecture.
Purpose
The Parthenon, one of the most recognizable landmarks in Greece. The Parthenon was built to replace a temple that had previously stood on the site but was destroyed by Persian invaders. A key purpose of the Parthenon was to show their gratitude to Athena for helping them conquer the Persians.
The Pantheon, The Roman Pantheon was a temple for all of the gods worshiped by the Romans. The word “pantheon” itself means “all gods” and is often used to refer to the group of gods the Romans worshiped. This word is also applied to other cultures’ gods as well, like the Greeks’ pantheon of gods.

RE: The Parthenon vs the Pantheon
The Parthenon was built to be devoted to Athena, the patron goddess of the city. Whereas, the Pantheon was built to be devoted to not just one specific god or goddess, but to the worship of all the Roman gods and goddesses. The context clues within the name “Pantheon” suggest that “pan” means all and “theos” means god.
In the Parthenon, the Doric column was used, it was the earliest and simplest of the Greek column style. It gives the Parthenon its universal appeal. Whereas, in the pantheon, no columns or supports was used. They used an architectural feature known as the dome. The dome makes it possible to span a dramatic space without the use of columns or supports.

RE: The Parthenon vs the Pantheon
The Parthenon is the ideal Greek temple, built for the goddess Athena. The Greeks used the golden ratio create symmetry and balance in their architecture. The Parthenon is Classical Greek in its style with simple and elegant Doric columns. Their view of idealism was translated into their architecture. The columns on this ancient Greek building celebrate their view of perfect beauty- simple, harmonious, symmetrical, balanced and proportional. The marble pillars are humanistic because they represent the model human form- strong, tall, powerful, graceful and visually appealing. The columns are wider at the bottom and smaller at the top, allowing the viewer’s eye to be drawn upward. This tapering also made the building appear taller and the columns appear straighter. The iconic columns create a sense of power and strength that allow the whole building to stand tall and be seen. The post-and-lintel method was used create stability; the columns supported the cross beams and the horizontal beams on top of the columns kept the columns in place. The functional, timeless columns in the Parthenon, still remain iconic today.
The Romans built the Pantheon as a temple for all of their gods. The columns are ornate, decorated and Corinthian style. The detailed columns in the Pantheon represented triumph, wealth, prosperity, strength, power and human abilities. The Column of Trajan shows that the ancient romans valued human work, intelligence, achievements and technology. The artistic columns were meant to be seen and thought provoking, just as the Roman’s work was meant to be treasured and praised. Most of the columns were for decoration and did not actually structurally support the building, unlike the Parthenon. The Roman’s shift to realism is reflected through their extravagant decorated columns, suggesting that complexity is more realistic than simplicity.

RE: The Parthenon vs the Pantheon
Both the Pantheon and the Parthenon are ancient temples. However, they have many differences. The purpose of The Pantheon was to be a pagan temple for the public to worship the 7 Roman Gods. The Pantheon was built in Rome as a temple for all the Roman gods. It is a round building standing behind a rectangular porch. It is known to be one of the most beautiful domed monuments because of the dome it has at the top of the building. The building itself almost looks like a Greek temple. The Pantheon is now a Catholic church.
The Parthenon is a lot older than the Pantheon. Its main purpose was to serve as a temple in Ancient Greece for the goddess Athena. She was the virgin goddess of the Athens. There was an ivory statue built inside the structure of Athena. The building is supported by columns on every side allowing you to see inside without stepping inside of it. It is now used as a museum because it has suffered some damage over the years.

Materials used: The Parthenon vs the Pantheon
The Pantheon and Parthenon are both ancient temples. As said, The Pantheon was built in Rome to celebrate the Roman gods, the Parthenon was built in Ancient Greece for the goddess Athena.
The Pantheon is 1,900 year old Roman temple. It contains the world’s largest free-standing dome. The materials used for this temple were concrete, volcanic rock, brick, and granite. The rotunda and dome is also surprisingly made of concrete, that includes lightweight pumice as part of the aggregate.
The Parthenon of Ancient Athens is hand carved from top to bottom using pentelic marble, some timber was also used to support the slanted marble tiles of the roof and limestone for the base. Originally, the segments of the columns were secured using iron clamps with an additional layer of molten lead. Inside The Parthenenon, The statue of Athenais depicted with ivory skin and close to 2,400 pounds of gold armor, weapons, and jewelry.

RE: Egyptian Art: Key characteristics
Egyptian art was mostly concerned with Gods, Goddesses, and Rulers because they were considered to be the center of civilization. Egyptian artists were really interested in realism when portraying humans in their work. The sizes of human figures were drawn were based on their social status , upper body parts always facing forward, male and female statues varying in colors, and hands always on knees where all common characteristics found in Egyptian art.
In this image, you can see how massive God and Goddess are compared to the other human figure underneath them. Their hands are on their laps as well and they are facing foward.
Again, in this image below you can see how one figure is male figure is massive in size compared to the other. Both figures have their faces turned, but their chest is facing foward. The woman has her hands placed on her knees as well.

RE: Egyptian Art: Key characteristics
Egyptian art focuses primarily on death, life after death, and religion. It is very symbolic to the Egyptians. It usually has a balanced and symmetrical presentation. A lot of their art, especially their sculptures look similar. The standing sculptures are usually of gods and goddesses or royalty. The sculptures of a king and queen or a male and female side by side usually show the people standing or sitting very firm and stiff. Although their body language comes off firm, their faces look very calm and content. As Katie mentioned, the upper body parts are always facing forward. In the images shown the males fists are always clenched tight and the female’s arms and body look very stiff. I think the closed fist of the male is representing strength.
