Teratogens Discussion Questions
Imagine that a local health department has invited you to speak to a group of newly pregnant women about prenatal environmental influences. Your task is to create a presentation focusing on one type of environmental influence—for example:
(1) A presentation on teratogens, identifying common teratogens, the risks posed by each, and recommendations for how to avoid them
(2) A presentation on nutrition and exercise during pregnancy, including recommendations for healthy eating and for appropriate exercise
(3) A presentation on emotional stress during pregnancy, including common sources of stress, effects on the developing organism, and effective ways of dealing with stress
Choose one type of environmental influence (1, 2 or 3 above) and develop your presentation. You should submit what would be your notes for this presentation (i.e., what you would say, NOT any slides). For each type of environmental influence, use research from your readings to support your points/recommendations. 1 single-spaced page
