In our daily lives we make observations whether something is big or small and less or more of something. Aquinas’s Fourth Proof states that all things have to be measured or compared to something else: bad or good, small or big, and hot or cold. We can observe that helping someone that is hurt is good without comparing it to anything else and we know that killing someone is bad without measuring it to anything else. Aquinas’s proof states that something caused the goodness and established this base of perfection and that something is God.
