Performance strategies in Shakespeare, English homework help

The text of Shakespeare’s plays give indications about certain aspects of performance, but often these decisions are left to the discretion of individual directors and performance companies.

Select a Shakespeare play from among the five we cover in this class. Then, find and view several clips from different performances of this play to give yourself some background in the range of performance choices. Here are instructions for how to find Films On Demand in the Library:

Go to a Library website by clicking on the Library link.

Click on the link marked Find Articles and More located on purple navigation bar on the top of the page

Select Databases A-Z

You will see an alphabetical list at the top of the page. Select F.

Select Films On Demand.

Enter Othello in the search box on the top right hand side of the page.

Hit the Search button.

Look for the result with “John Kani’s Othello” in the description for the full production of the play.

Although Films On Demand is helpful, you do not have to use this resource.

Finally, select two clips from different performances of the same specific scene or sequence from your selected play.

Evaluate performance decisions made in specific clips and discuss the impact of alternative strategies. Your paper should be organized around a thesis statement that focuses on how the performance elements of your selected play can help establish audience reaction.

Must be between 750 and 900 words as well as double spaced and formatted according to APA style.

Must include a title in addition to the following information (a title page is not required). The information should be located in the top left hand corner of the first page of your paper and, like the rest of the paper, should be double-spaced:
