Northcentral Library Information Literacy Tutorial, sociology homework help

As preparation for completing the Signature Assignment, you will prepare a brief annotated bibliography related to your selected personal Model of MFT. An annotated bibliography is a very effective way to explore the literature and have the effort produce a very useful document for writing papers, doing research or creating a reference tool for use in a MFT practice.

Some foundational tools that can be used, if needed (these were included in MFT5101 as well), to understand how to find information include:

Northcentral Library Information Literacy Tutorial
Northcentral Library Search like an Expert
Northcentral Library Finding a Research Topic

Please select at least five articles that address the Classic or Postmodern Model upon which you choose to focus. Places to search include:

  1. The Gehart (2014) text (remember that you must find the original source of anything listed as sources in the text)
  2. the Northcentral Library databases (e.g., EBSCO Host, SAGE Knowledge, E-brary, etc. – remember those that you tried in MFT5101)
  3. Google Scholar or another Internet search engine
  4. or any other search method that you choose

The articles should be from peer-reviewed journals and published within the past five years. Submit an annotated bibliography that includes these 5 entries. Choose articles that, taken together, will assist you in writing the paper you are outlining this week and that is due next week. All articles must be scholarly, as defined by the Academic vs. Popular Articles Resource in the Northcentral Library.

Note that each annotated entry must concisely summarize key aspects of the article (study, literature review, secondary analysis, etc.) — e.g., participants, purpose, research design and methods, data analysis, key findings — and include a thoughtful evaluation of the significance of the study’s findings and conclusions as they relate to the Classic or Postmodern Model about which you will be writing. In order to write quality entries, you must understand each study—what the researchers did, why they did it, and what they found and concluded. Be sure you paraphrase all content, following Northcentral Academic Integrity guidelines to insure that your work is your own.

Sample Annotated Bibliography

Your annotated bibliography does not need to be lengthy, but it does need to be informative and useful. The annotated bibliography is a paragraph summarizing each piece of literature that you have chosen related to your topic of interest.

Write a brief synopsis of the literature in your own words that highlights the most relevant “take home” points. Essentially, each annotation should address both 1) a brief synopsis of the content of the given resource, and 2) a statement of the relevance of the given resource within your topic of study. In other words, your annotations should state, for each resource, what it says and why it is relevant to your intended topic/research. The finished annotation should serve as a detailed overview of the literature that reduces the need that you will need to go back and re-read the entire article or chapter.

Start the annotation by giving the full reference for the article using APA formatting.

Summarize the article in a paragraph and include:

  • Purpose of the article / study
  • Sample and method of the study
  • Key results
  • Relevance of the study to your research
  • If the article is a literature review or theoretical piece, aim to highlight 3-4 most significant “take home” points.

Do not use direct quotes – the annotation should be written in your own words. You do not need to use citation (no parenthetical citation) in your paragraph because it is assumed that everything is from the named reference.

If you are unsure what to include in an entry, send a single annotated bibliography entry and the original article to your professor for a preliminary review.

Submit a paper comprised of at least 5 entries. There is no need to put each entry on a new page. The APA citation will act as a separator of the entries.

Your annotated bibliography should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.
