Wherever humans have lived, we have transformed the environment.This process has been marked by great successes, but also stunning failures.Examine the relationship between ecology and civilization, and between environmental exhaustion and the collapse of some civilizations.(Hint: for the first part of the question, you might draw upon Herodotus’s history; for the second, Fernandez-Armesto has provided plenty of examples.)
