There is an article that talks about resources for grandparents and it is call the Kinship Navigator, and it gives financial support to the grandparents that are raising their grandchildren. There is a 1-800 number to call to get more information and to talk to a representative. That’s all there really is on the New York website for AARP.

I think that there is an impact on the children, and on the grandparents as well. The children may be confused and not understand what is going on with their parents. There may be difficult situations between the parents and children that can cause a strain on the grandparents and grandchildren’s relationship. The grandparents may be too burned out, and old to take proper care of the little ones. It can be hard for a young parent to keep up with toddlers, let alone a grandparent. There can also be health issues that the grandparents are dealing with, which can make it that much harder for them to care for their grandchildren.

My role in supporting families with the grandparents raising their grandchildren is to be there if they need anything, or need help finding resources to help them. I can also help them get in contact with the family workers so that they can get all the help they need, and get all the services that they qualify for.
