Discussion – Power, Social Class, and Deviance / Respond to Peer

What role does power and social class play in how deviance is perceived and treated in our society? Discuss a specific example of a case where social class or social status influenced how a deviant individual was perceived and treated, including evaluation of the consequences for the individual and for society.

Peer

I believe that social class definitely affects how deviant behavior is perceived and treated. One of the most famous cases of this that I can think of is the OJ Simpson case. He was accused of murdering his ex wife, all of the evidence was there, but he was able to have the best legal team money could buy, and he walked free. Now, nobody besides OJ will ever know the truth about whether or not he did it, but I can almost guarantee that if he did not have the legal team that he had backing him up, he never would have won that trial.
