descrip your trip in 4 paper

Main topic:

  • 1)Poverty in Nicaragua ( outside source)
  • 2)Poverty and its effect on health ( Sanabria,PP218-227 / Stanhope,PP734-751)
  • 3)Lack of clean water ( Sanabria ,P217 / Stanhope,PP 217-225 / Halder,” Water Rural Honduras”).

What I saw in Nicaragua:

  • 1)People living in extreme poverty, all family member (4-5 people) live in small houses that only has one bedroom and a kitchen. Also, their houses made of wood and aluminum.
  • 2)Most people in Nicaragua do not have the basic need at their houses. They do not have a bathroom (no private live) they use the river as a facility and shower.
  • 3)The river water is consider as dirty witch causes a lot of diseases. But since the community cannot afford to help the citizen people have to use it and the consequences of using dirty water is infection diseases.
  • 4)People cannot afford to buy water because it’s expensive it cost them $45 a month Also, they cannot buy it because sometimes it’s hard to be available. They tend to buy soft drink because it is much cheaper than the water. Indeed, because they drink a lot of soft drink that contain a lot of sugar that cause them decay and dental health.
  • 5)Most people in Nicaragua (children / young and old people) suffering from decay & tooth loss and that is all because of lack health.

II. Instructions for Paper: Ensure you do the following when you write your paper:

1. Content: This paper will mostly be about your observations you made in Honduras during the trip. You can discuss events that happened during any of the days: the cultural day, the clinic days, or any other days outside of the regular three-day brigade cycle. Thus, you can and should write it in first person (i.e., I saw…, We experienced…, etc.). However, you must also relate it to what you learned in class. The Andrews, Sanabria, and Stanhope books provide important information you can work into this paper, as do the assigned weekly readings.

2. Structure: Write the entire paper as a single essay. Do not break it into different sections or subsections. Your paper should be a coherent whole that has an introduction with a clear thesis statement, a body of supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion. Most importantly, your paper should be coherent and should expand upon your thesis statement. Do not write about things that you do not state in your thesis statement. Also, your thesis should be written as a declarative statement. The thesis statement can be written as one or two sentences, and these sentences should be last sentence or sentences of the introduction.

3. Format: Your paper must be typed, double spaced, 12 characters per inch, one inch margins all the way around. Do not justify the right-hand margin. Have your name on the top of the first page, and have all the pages numbered. The length of this paper should be between 3 to 4 pages. Only use citations for those parts of your paper that are taken from one of textbooks or readings that we used in class. This pertains to both paraphrased and quoted materials. Citations should appear directly after the paraphrased or quoted material (see below). Put your name, the date, and the course number (SS 415CA) in the top left-hand corner of the first page. Do not include a cover page. Include a works cited page at the end of the paper. It must be a separate page. A sample paper is included at the end of this handout for reference.

4. Citations: You only need to cite information you find in either of the two books, not the information that comes from your own personal observations while in Central America. Use parenthetical references. The examples below are only in red for ease of reading. Do not do this in your own papers.
